Short CV
Arjan Wardekker (1981) studied Chemistry at Utrecht
University (BSc. (equiv.) 2003, MSc. 2005) and graduated within the MSc. programme
of Natural Resources Management. His main focus was on risks (environment, health,
and safety), risk management/policy, and risk perception and communication.
During 2003-2004 he worked on his MSc. thesis on risk perception and communication
on climate change, at the Department of Science, Technology and Society (UU
- STS)
Working experience was obtained during three internships.
His final internship was performed at the Dutch Nature's Calendar (De Natuurkalender), based at the Foundation
for Sustainable Development and Wageningen University, on the issue of climate
change, air quality and human health, focussing on hay fever.
Two earlier internships focussed on science communication and education: one
at Utrecht University Museum, supervising
school children in the Youth Lab and developing new educational material, and
one at the CUtrecht University's Chemical Education section at Utrecht University,
designing and developing a concept website on the risks of chemicals.
During the past few years he has been working as a junior researcher in the Environmental Risk Management cluster at STS and as a methodology advisor at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. A list of his main projects can be found below. Earlier jobs - during his study - included working as a research assistant at STS on the International Expert Meeting Uncertainty Communication and as a science editor/journalist on environmental issues for "Magazijn" magazine (Utrecht Science Shops).
